The Product Management Service (PMS) will launch the pilot of its public Application Programming Interface (API) in June. This new PMS public API will extend access to EU medicinal product data beyond regulatory use, unlocking opportunities to enhance digital health solutions and innovation.

EMA is planning the release of the API pilot through a deliberately controlled and collaborative approach, based on:

  • Collaboration with stakeholders (NDSG, ROG, and industry) to refine data quality processes.

  • Continuous monitoring under the PMS Data Quality Framework and DAP reporting.

  • Controlled selection of data which are already available via public PUI and data classified as public in EU IG Chapter 5 – Annex A.

  • Introduction of access controls, monitoring and oversight of who accesses and uses the available data.

  • Explicit acceptance of EMA’s API General Terms and Conditions of use, covering aspects as envisaged purpose and use of API, source of data, roles and responsibilities in shaping and managing data, how to address and resolve any identified data quality errors, intellectual property, and reproduction rights.

This release is framed as a pilot to balance its high value for public use with EMA’s evolving experience in this domain. It enables early integration and benefit realisation, while continuing to build experience and continuously improve PMS.
